World Says No to War on Yemen: International Online Discussion

October 8 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Yemeni Alliance Committee (US), Stop the War (UK) and Action Corps (US), with the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation, American Friends Service Committee, CODEPINK, Massachusetts Peace Action, Voices for Creative Nonviolence, the Raytheon Antiwar Campaign,* and political leaders and activists in France, Italy and beyond, invite you to this international online discussion. Let’s build power to stop Western and US backing of the war on Yemen!

WHY OCTOBER 8?
Thursday, October 8, marks the 4-year anniversary of a Saudi-led coalition airstrike on a funeral ceremony in Sana’a, Yemen, killing at least 100 people and wounding more than 500. Recently the bombing and blockade of Yemen — with western participation — has only gotten worse. As we all deal with the pandemic, which has exacerbated the suffering of people in Yemen, now is the time to connect and recommit ourselves to stopping participation in this disastrous war.

What does abolishing the police mean for domestic violence survivors?

October 8 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

*This is another date of the previous workshops we've hosted on DV Survivors and the Police. The content will be mostly the same.*

With uprisings happening across the country in response to the police murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many more Black americans, many activists and communities are calling for defunding or completely abolishing the police. What would this mean for domestic violence survivors, many who rely on the police and prison system as their primary strategy to creating more safety in their lives?

Over this two hour training, we'll unpack the current and historical relationship between the survivor support movement and the police and prison systems, explore the impact of policing and prisons on survivors of abuse, and practice dreaming a world where violence is unimaginable in all of our communities.

This virtual training is open to people of all backgrounds and experience levels. We will be using small groups and interactive exercises over zoom so participants are encouraged to attend on their computer or other device that will support them to fully participate . That said, any one is welcome to attend in whatever way works for them.
