Giant Puppet Parade & Circle Up for the Earth
July 7, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
The third annual Interdependence Day Celebration! Giant Puppets! Music and Song! community “Circle Up” for the Earth, and direct action with Climate Action Now, will be held July 7th at 1PM at Pulaski Park in Northampton, Massachusetts. Mother Earth, the Flying Tree, The Polar Bear, the Sun and a Drgon on a Bicycle will be some of the sights woven into what MuZen Theater event producers Beth Fairservis and Stephen Katz are calling a “Circle Up for the Earth”. Combining parading, meditation, song, story and spectacle, Circle Up participants will be guided to rebalance individual and collective relationships with Life on Earth.
Following the performance event, Western Mass Climate Action Now, a volunteer based activist organization will lead the community in supporting direct actions in our community relating to reducing energy use in Western Mass.
The community is encouraged to contribute to the parade and the Circle Up by arriving with flowers in hand at 12:30pm in one of four nearby locations, listed below.
At 1 PM everyone will parade from the Four Directions with MuZen giant puppets to Pulaski Park. While Stephen Katz underscores the event with drums, bells and layered cello music, Beth Fairservis will guide the group from sitting in silence, to conversation and song about our relationship to the Four Elements: Earth, Air, Water, and especially, Fire.
Please dress in appropriate colors and or bring a puppet of your own making that represents the creatures of that direction!
Flowers, preferably hand picked will be laid on an altar to the earth.
