Webinar: Why is Massachusetts Building New Prisons?

The Baker Administration intends to build a new women’s prison to replace the Framingham House of Correction. We call for decarceration and community based alternatives instead of new prisons. We call for a moratorium on new prisons and jails in Massachusetts. At this webinar, we’ll explain why we don’t need new prisons and talk about what everyone can do to help.

Speakers:

Elizabeth Whalley, professor in the Framingham State University Department of Sociology. She has published research on incarcerated women’s mental health and sexual trauma, prison abolition, rape crisis centers, and institutional sexual assault response. Dr. Whalley is also interested in postcolonial criminology.
