Take part in The Resistance Center’s longest standing tradition as we celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Our day-long celebration will begin with coffee and hot chocolate at 10:00 a.m. in Florence at the Sojourner Truth statue for the Afro-American Heritage Walking Tour. Social justice community workshops facilitated by local activist groups will then take place from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Edwards Church in Northampton. We will end the day with a convocation from 2:00-3:30 p.m. with music, keynote speaker Dr. and special guest U.S. Congressman Jim McGovern.
Afro-American Heritage Walking Tour
Our friends at the in Florence will begin the morning at 10:00AM at the Sojourner Truth Statue for the Afro-American Walking Tour lead by Steve Strimmer. Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.
Community Workshops
Social justice community workshops will by lead by local activist groups. Workshops will take place at Edwards Church and will each be an hour long, from 12:00pm-1:00pm and then 1:00pm-2:00pm. Groups include Extinction Rebellion, the Western Massachusetts Latin America Solidarity Coalition, Pioneer Valley Democratic Socialists of America, Climate Action Now, and more. More details to come!
Convocation
At 2:00pm in Edwards Church, we will conclude our celebration with live music and hear from keynote speaker Dr. Alimcar Shabazz about MLK’s legacy today. We will then be joined by U.S. Congressman Jim McGovern for further remarks.
